Working With Your Doctor For SSD

Experienced Lawyers Handling SSD and SSI Claims in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia

Long story short: Approval or denial of any disability claim will be largely dependent on the medical records and information provided by your doctor(s).

Because of that, it is critical for you to see a doctor and follow any prescribed medical treatments and advice about your condition.

At Robert Peirce & Associates, we help people to apply for and obtain SSD, SSI and veterans' disability benefits. Our experience and track record of success with SSD and SSI claims is extensive. As a result, we recognize potential trouble spots and gaps in our clients' medical records quickly. We've also learned how important it is for clients' to follow the advice of their doctors, and how we ourselves can best work with those doctors toward building a stronger case.

If you want to file for SSD and SSI benefits, there are a few things to keep in mind when you see your doctor:

  • First, be honest. Dishonesty will not help you. That said — don't downplay, hold back or underestimate with regard to the physical or mental problems you're experiencing. The more open and honest you are with your doctor, the more your doctor can help you, and the more we may be able to help you.
  • Second, do what the doctor says. Once your doctor has accurate information from you, the right tests can be done and their best advice can be given. It is vitally important that you do what they ask — and that you continue to do those things until the doctor says otherwise. If you stop taking prescribed medications because of side effects without talking to your doctor, or stop your prescribed treatments without talking to your doctor, you may run a serious risk of not being approved for SSD and SSI benefits.
