Are Pennsylvania doctors covering up hospital negligence?

Medical errors are on the list for the third leading cause of deaths in the United States. Over 400,000 patients have died each year in Pennsylvania and elsewhere due to hospital negligence. One of the biggest problems with these mistakes are doctors, and their coworkers, not taking accountability for their own actions.

Some of the most common mishaps that occur in the medical facility are objects left inside of patients and misdiagnosis. The communication in the medical environment is lacking and many doctors have problems admitting that they have done something wrong. Another problem is other doctors tend to cover up their colleagues' mistakes as a work norm of having their backs. Patients who have been injured because of negligence should not be subjected to looking for a needle in a haystack.

There are new guidelines that must be followed when another doctor has made an error. Colleagues who witness a doctor make a mistake needs to bring it to their attention. Confronting the error and documenting it improves the accuracy of incident reports and allows the doctor to take full accountability of their actions and apologize to the patient. The safety of patient is a number one concern.

When a loved one suffers injury or permanent damage due to hospital negligence, it can place heavy burdens on the family. The patient may never function as they used to or be able to care for oneself again. Some families in Pennsylvania may be entitled to file a medical malpractice suit against a doctor or medical facility to recover damages related to the injuries suffered. Monetary damages may be awarded if evidence documents the doctor performed in a negligent manner that caused the injuries.
