Slip-and-Fall Victim Sues Hospital for Medical Malpractice

Victims of medical malpractice in Pennsylvania may be interested to hear about a woman in a southern state who is a plaintiff in a personal injury lawsuit against a hospital. The woman's lawyer says that the hospital committed medical malpractice while she was receiving care from the facility. The lawsuit was filed last October in the 24th Judicial District Court.

According to the woman's lawsuit, she was being psychologically evaluated by the hospital in July 2009. The woman had previously been diagnosed with dementia, and she had been experiencing hallucinations, agitation and confusion. She was taken to the medical facility for further evaluation as a result of her symptoms.

According to court papers, the woman was considered to be a fall risk at the time of hospitalization. However, the hospital's staff had allegedly neglected her care, which resulted in her falling under the hospital's watch and supervision. The lawsuit claims that the plaintiff broke her hip as a result of the fall and required surgery to repair the break.

The lawsuit is requesting unspecified damages relating to the woman's injuries, the cost of physical therapy, emotional pain and suffering, and physical pain and suffering. She is also requesting damages for permanent scarring, occupational therapy and mental anguish. The suit further claims that the woman has suffered a loss of quality of life and duration of life.

Hospitals are responsible for the safety of the patients under their care. When a slip-and-fall accident occurs at a medical facility relating to an individual who is considered to be a fall risk, it is possible that it could be a medical malpractice issue in the state of Pennsylvania. Anyone who has suffered a slip-and-fall injury at a medical facility may therefore want to speak with an attorney regarding the possibility of pursuing financial restitution in court.
