Woman files medical malpractice claim against surgeon

When a doctor in Pennsylvania fails to exercise a reasonable degree of care in the operating room, the patient under his or her care may end up being harmed instead of helped. In this situation, the physician may be held accountable through the legal system. One woman in a recent out-of-state case involving alleged medical malpractice said she suffered harm as a result of her surgeon's carelessness.

The woman said she underwent surgery on a Friday. However, she reported that the surgery caused her to suffer sustained, debilitating and painful physical injuries as a result of her doctor's negligence. According to her complaint, the surgeon additionally left her with emotional injuries.

The woman decided to file a liability suit against the surgeon in light of the lasting complications he allegedly left her with. The plaintiff also said her doctor's medical malpractice caused her to be more susceptible to other injuries in the future. As part of her lawsuit, she is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is also seeking a jury trial.

When people in Pennsylvania are hurt by doctors who fail to competently perform their duties, they have the right to seek the reimbursement of monetary damages through medical malpractice claims. In a successfully litigated case, they may be awarded compensatory damages; in addition, punitive damages may be awarded in cases of egregious fault. Financial restitution may help a malpractice victim cover the cost of any required medical treatment, and it may also help to cover the loss of wages if he or she is unable to return to work for a period of time due to such complications.
