Pennsylvania hospital charged with medical malpractice

A woman's unfortunate death is part of a recent lawsuit against Geisinger-Community Medical Center. The woman's husband has filed a medical malpractice suit against the Pennsylvania hospital, alleging that its neglect to properly analyze an EKG led to his wife's death. The defendant in the case denies liability, and no conclusion has been reached in the case at this time.

The lawsuit stems from a 2016 incident in which the woman went to the emergency room complaining of chest pain, nausea, and belching. The physicians ordered tests, including an EKG. No urgent care was ordered; the physicians attributed the woman's complaints as an allergy and sent her home the following day. Later on the second day, she returned to the emergency room complaining of shortness of breath, went into cardiac arrest and died.

The claim alleges that the EKG test clearly showed irregularities related to her underlying heart issue. The plaintiffs allege that either the physicians did not perform their duty by reviewing the test, or they ignored the test results with reckless indifference. The defendants deny the claims, arguing that the lawsuit is too vague, and that it may not meet the legal standard for willful and wanton neglect. The defendants claim that they gave appropriate care to the woman in this case.

Sadly, one man is left alone in the world after losing his wife. If her death could have been prevented by more attentive medical care, the loss is inexcusable. The man is entitled to justice for his wife and has chosen to seek it through the Pennsylvania court system with the help of an attorney. An attorney can provide the legal advice needed to go to battle against a large and powerful health care institution believed responsible for medical malpractice.
