Joining with The Law Office of Shaheen Wallace, Esq., LLC, the lawyers here at Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C. have taken on a case involving alleged abuses at McGuire Memorial, an intermediate care facility for the disabled in New Brighton. According to the lawsuit, which will soon be filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Beaver County, four disabled residents were filmed and photographed while experiencing severe abuse at the hands of a facility caretaker.
When authorities searched the cell phone of Zachary Dinnell, one of the caretakers at McGuire Memorial, they found over 150 obscene images and videos recorded on Dinnell’s phone – each one involving the physical or sexual abuse of a disabled McGuire Memorial resident. These images and films were recorded between 2017 and 2018, and investigators have identified at least seventeen different victims based on the photographic evidence.
The families of four victims are now bringing civil lawsuits against Dinnell, another abusive caretaker named Tyler Smith, and the McGuire Memorial staff. Although two of the victims have since passed away, these families are still seeking justice for the horrific and disturbing abuse that their loved ones endured while in the care of this facility.
In addition to the civil lawsuits, Dinnell and Smith have both been criminally charged with multiple counts of assault and reckless endangerment. Dinnell also faces additional charges for sexual abuse of a minor, neglect of a care-dependent person, and invasion of privacy.
Standing Up for Victims of Sexual and Physical Abuse
At Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C., we are committed to holding Dinnell, Smith, and McGuire Memorial accountable for the horrors that our clients have endured. As our attorney Rob Peirce shared: “The repeated abuse to the residents of McGuire Memorial… is another tragic instance where families trusted a facility to care for their loved ones and the facility permitted the abuse to continue.”
When care facilities fail to properly protect their residents from abuse, the results can be devastating – and the care facility may be financially liable for any injuries or losses suffered by the victim.
