Truvada Drug Injury Claims
HIV Drug Attorneys Serving Injury Victims in Pittsburgh
Truvada is one of several HIV drugs manufactured by Gilead Sciences, Inc. – and while it does not cure HIV and AIDS, it does have the ability to prevent HIV cells from spreading throughout the body. This has made the drug a cornerstone for most HIV care plans. However, the drug has also been clearly linked to kidney damage and osteoporosis, as well as a dangerous decrease in patient bone density.
If you’ve been affected by Truvada drug injuries, our team of experienced HIV drug attorneys in Pittsburgh can help you pursue fair compensation from Gilead and its affiliates. Pharmaceutical companies have a responsibility to ensure that their products are reasonably safe, particularly in the case of life-saving drugs like Truvada. When they fail to consider your safety, you can hold them accountable.

What Does Truvada Do?
Truvada is a marketing name for the drug compound known as tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), which was developed in the 1980s in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis. In Truvada, TDF is combined with emtricitabine to stop HIV cells in their tracks, halting the disease from progressing into AIDS. It was originally only available in an intravenous form. Once Gilead acquired the product, however, the FDA approved TDF as a pill medication, and it became widely used as both a preventive measure and a treatment option for AIDS patients.
Of course, taking Truvada as an oral medication comes with severe side effects for some patients – and although Gilead knew about these risks early on, the company did not make an effort to inform the public. Even more damning is the fact that Gilead was working on a safer version of Truvada and other TDF-based medications in the 10 years following its release.
Common Side Effects of Truvada
Although TDF has been marketed under many different names, Truvada is by far the most popular one. For many people, this drug has helped to facilitate their HIV treatment and even prolong their lives. Unfortunately, for many others, this drug has proved to cause serious and life-threatening side effects, ultimately negating its positive benefits.
Here are some of the most commonly reported side effects of Truvada:
- Renal failure
- Chronic kidney disease
- Decreased bone density
- Bone fractures
- Kidney injuries
- Lactic acidosis
- Liver damage
Compassionate Counsel for Your Claim
At Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C., we are dedicated to helping those affected by Truvada find some peace of mind for their futures. Many of the most common side effects from this drug can be deadly, particularly lactic acidosis and other related conditions. Because it has already been established that Gilead withheld the release of a safer antiretroviral drug, the company can be held accountable for failing to warn the public and creating a defectively designed drug. Let our attorneys help you fight for your rights, and secure fair recovery after your losses.
