An 83-year-old woman with dementia was living at Paramount Senior Living, a nursing home in Seven Fields, PA, when she was photographed and/or videoed partially nude without her knowledge or consent. The nursing home resident says, through her Power of Attorney, that staff members took photos or videos of her while she was in her shower chair. The footage was then shared on social media in a joking manner that further humiliated the victim and mocked her mental and physical state.
In response to these heinous acts, the resident, with the help of her attorney at Robert Peirce & Associates, P.C., filed a suit against Paramount Senior Living.
The image in question depicts the victim naked from the waist down, sitting in a shower chair above her own bowel movement. Once the image was shared via social media, nursing home staff members added humiliating comments to the photo mocking the woman’s mental health and her physical condition in the photo.
In the lawsuit, the victim also alleges that her family was not notified about the incident until three days after the staff posted the picture on social media. Although the Senior Living facility is aware of the incident involving the resident, they did not mention it in the records of the victim’s time at their facility.
In his own words, Attorney Robert Peirce stated:
Every family’s worst nightmare became [a] reality when these images were taken and distributed. Paramount failed to live up to its promises and failed my client in the highest degree. I have seen the impact that inadequate care has on elderly people first-hand in my representation of hundreds of victims of nursing home abuse and neglect. Additionally, within the past week, it was reported that a nurse at a local nursing home was taking nude pictures of residents and sending them to a former co-worker at Kane Regional Nursing Center. Now, this filing is yet another example of a violation of residents’ rights and dignity.
Paramount Senior Living has several senior care facilities located throughout the state, including the facility in Seven Fields, PA. They offer programs specifically geared towards residents in need of memory care, in addition to hospice and home health care options. Although this facility boasts reliable reviews online, their staff was both careless and malicious in their treatment of the 83-year-old resident living in their Seven Fields location.
