Pittsburgh Roundup Cancer Attorneys

File a Roundup Lawsuit Today!

If you are a farmer, landscaper, or homeowner, you have probably used Roundup as part of your regular weed-killing routine. It has been a trusted choice since the 1970s; even today, it remains one of the most popular herbicides on the market. But the product’s image as “safer than table salt” has been shattered through nationwide litigation.

According to allegations, Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate, has been linked to the development of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) and other cancers. Bayer is currently the subject of thousands of lawsuits related to these claims. And that’s in addition to the almost 100,000 Roundup cancer lawsuits it already settled for $11 billion.

If you have been injured, there is still time to act. As of 2022, another wave of Roundup cancer lawsuits is set to go to court. Our Pittsburgh Roundup cancer attorneys are currently reviewing these claims in our effort to make sure no victim is left behind. We will fight for the maximum amount of compensation owed to you.

The History of Roundup

Roundup was first introduced to the market in 1974. As mentioned, it is now one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. Each year, about 250 million pounds of the product is sprayed on crops, nurseries, and other areas. But how did Roundup get so popular in the first place?

The answer is convenience.

In 1996, Monsanto (acquired by Bayer in 2016) invented “Roundup Ready” seeds resistant to Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate. If you use these glyphosate-resistant seeds, then you can spray Roundup indiscriminately over your crops, in your garden, etc.—and you won’t have to worry about killing off the plants you want to survive. This convenience factor revolutionized landscaping and farming. By 2010, an estimated 90% of soybean fields and 70% of corn and cotton in the U.S. contained glyphosate-resistant crops.

Is Roundup Safe?

Roundup Has Been Linked to Multiple Cancers

Once known as a safe, fast-acting, easy-to-use weed killer, Roundup has now been linked to a variety of cancers. The most common is non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, including B-cell lymphoma.

Although any exposure to a toxic chemical is not great for one’s health, those most at risk for Roundup injuries are those who have been regularly exposed to Roundup for a long period of time. This includes but is not limited to the following groups:

  • Farmworkers
  • Landscapers
  • Employees of garden centers and nurseries
  • Other people with workplace exposure to glyphosate and/or Roundup
  • Those who have used Roundup in their home gardens/lawns for years

This list is not exhaustive. If you have reason to believe that you or your loved one has been a victim of toxic exposure, don’t hesitate to contact our Pittsburgh Roundup cancer lawyers online.

Why Is Roundup Still Being Sold?

The World Health Organization (WHO) was among the first to ring alarms and state that glyphosate exposure “probably” causes cancer. Sadly, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has maintained that glyphosate is safe for use.

Compelled by many public comments on the toxicity of Roundup, the EPA launched an investigation into the herbicide. In 2020, it released an interim decision on the matter: Per its own studies, glyphosate should be safe for humans. This decision has allowed Roundup to remain on the market in the U.S., despite well over 100,000 people alleging cancer from toxic exposure.

Has Roundup Changed Its Formula?

Again, because of the EPA’s decision, Roundup has been allowed to stay on the shelves without having to make any changes. Bayer continues to sell the very same formula that is at the center of nationwide litigation.

Did Monsanto Know the Risks of Using Roundup?

Bayer (formerly Monsanto) has continually defended the safety of Roundup. There is, however, evidence to support the allegations that employees were aware of the risks of using glyphosate.

A 2017 article from The New York Times reported on several internal documents that exhibited Monsanto’s failure to properly test Roundup, as well as its attempts to influence media coverage of the herbicide’s risks. For example, a writer contacted Monsanto and asked its team to draft an article for him, which later appeared in Forbes. Long before that, a 2003 email from a Monsanto executive stated that they “have not done the necessary testing” to evaluate the safety of Roundup.
