Lawsuit claims that medical malpractice led to brain damage

For parents, it is horrifying to see their child experiencing medical emergencies. Many parents in Pennsylvania rush to the hospital and place the care of their child into the hands of medical care professionals. Unfortunately, one out-of-state family claims that medical malpractice turned a scary situation into a lifelong issue after their young son suffered brain damage.

The incident happened in Sept. 2012. When a 19-month-old boy suffered a seizure, his mother rushed him to the hospital. Apparently, he was having difficulty breathing, and the doctor, named as a one of the defendants in the case, made several attempts to help the boy who was described as being breathless at the time.

However, even with advanced treatment, the boy's condition did not improve. A different doctor was eventually called in who locked a valve on a piece of equipment being used on the boy, which increased the amount of air going into the boy's lungs. Unfortunately, the boy had apparently already suffered brain damage. His parents claim that the delay in locking the valve caused his injuries and have accused the initial doctor of medical malpractice.

Brain injuries require ongoing medical care that is expensive and can destabilize a family's financial situation. Often, loved ones are prevented from working while they provide care. When such an injury comes as a result of medical malpractice, there are options for victims in Pennsylvania. As this family has done, many turn to a civil court for relief. A successfully presented case could result in an award of damages that can help ensure that a victim's medical needs are met for his or her life.
